The Tutu Project: husband dresses in tutus to make his cancer-stricken wife laugh

Don’t laugh. Just because a grown man is wearing a pink tutu doesn’t mea … ok you can laugh. But you’ll be crying in a bit! Bob Carey, the guy in the tutu, isn’t wearing it just because he likes to prance around like a fairy princess. The story here is that his wife Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months after he first tried on the tutu. To amuse his wife, Carey put on the tutu and photographed himself on his travels.

The amazing show of love for his wife inspired many and got Bob tremendous response. And thus, the Tutu Project was born and in 2012, they even came out with a book called Ballerina.

Carey on his wife’s cancer and how they responded to it: ‘Oddly enough, her cancer has taught us that life is good, dealing with it can be hard, and sometimes the very best thing—no, the only thing—we can do to face another day is to laugh at ourselves, and share a laugh with others’.

The Carey Foundation was born out of the Tutu Project. All their proceeds, including the sales of their calendar with Bob and his tutu, go to support women diagnosed with breast cancer, survivors, and their family members.

Oh god, I never imagined in my entire life that an old guy in a tutu could bring me to tears.
