Chinese artist Ai Weiwei is coming to San Francisco’s Alcatraz island as part of a ‘site-specific sculpture, sound and multimedia’ work throughout the island. Announced by the FOR-SITE Foundation this year, the exhibition won’t take place until September 2014, but ideas are already in the works and a few snippets of info are already out there.

Restricted areas that are usually kept closed to the public will be opened for this special exhibition, revealing ‘new perspective on Alcatraz,’ while examining ‘incarceration as a tool of political repression and art as an act of resistance.’

We’ve seen the amazing installations Ai Weiwei is capable of, so I can’t wait to see what he can do with an entire island.
