Most offensive holiday site ever? South African slums for wealthy tourists

The term ‘slumming it’ is a reality for tourists who stay at Emoya Luxury Hotel and Spa in Bloemfontein, South Africa. This company has taken the luxury out of their guests’ holidays to build a fake shanty town so guests can experience what it’s really like to be in a shanty town. Except this fake shanty town costs around half the average monthly wage of a South African.

The shacks are equipped with under floor heating, long-drop effect toilets, electricity, electrical geysers, and even Wi-Fi.

The Emoya website describes the shanty town accommodation as the ‘full African Experience. It’s an experience you’ll never forget! Ideal for teambuilding and meetings – or surprise your partner with a birthday party or wedding anniversary in a real makhukhu!’

Is this the biggest prank on poverty-stricken people ever?
