I hope he doesn’t mind the comparison, but I see Marc Pearson as the Adam Elliot of comics. Not in that he’s an adorable gay man who brings up his dogs every time I hound him after a lecture (creepy stalker David, bad…). More in that his focus seems to be on struggling humans, doing their best despite feeling completely lost and confused by the all too real world that surrounds them.

His ongoing project, the ‘Mr. Ray’ comics, blend human awkwardness, sublime (ironic?) poetry and the most nostalgically washed out watercolours. I look forward to the day that the 1000+ page ‘Mr. Ray’ omnibus edition wins every award EVER.
