When we think of the word ‘athletic’, the first thing that comes to mind is a person with the build of Superman – bulging muscles, washboard abs, etc. But New York-based photographer Howard Schatz dispels this myth with his book, Athlete.

In it are photographs of 125 Olympic athletes showcasing their fit and fabulous bodies. It shows us that there’s a wide variety of heights, weights, widths, and body shapes that make up an athlete. Some sports require a slim physique like that of running. Some require bulk like a weightlifter. It just goes to show that every body type can be a well-oiled medal-winning machine.

Now, what Olympic sport goes well with a beer belly?
