Failed weapon systems you kinda wish were around

Weapon technology is improving year after year, but have you ever wondered about the long-forgotten weapon programs and systems that simply never took off? Popular Mechanics takes us on a 10-weapon journey into the world of failures, starting with Flying Platforms. These vehicles were developed by Hiller Helicopters in the 1950s and allowed soldiers to shoot from the air, all while hovering above. Pretty neat. Another failed weapon includes the Flying Laser Canon. Described as ‘the closest thing on Earth to the Death Star’, this weapon used a laser to destroy enemy ballistic missiles. The problem? Powering the weapon was too heavy.
