Phonebloks: A phone you can build, keep and upgrade block by block

Phones these days. When they’re not breaking down, they’re busy becoming obsolete. Dave Hakkens, a designer from Netherlands, decided it was time for a phone worth keeping: namely the Phoneblok, which curiously resembles a Lego creation with functional blocks (or ‘bloks’, as he dubs them) that can be detached and replaced at will.

It’s an appealing concept with enough room for customization: with the camera blok, for instance, you can choose to have a Nikon lens, a Canon lens, or some other brand. The project is now in its final stages of crowdfunding on Thunderclap.
