Ladies, did you know that you won’t get arrested if you walk the streets of New York topless? Just putting it out there just in case you plan to join the 80 women who have gone bare-breasted in the Big Apple. Portrait photographer Jordan Matter, known for his series Dancers Among us, spent six years asking different women to go voluntarily topless in public. Many confronted their feelings of shame and inadequacy, many defied convention.

As a result, as Matter soon found out, the ladies became unexpectedly euphoric – leading him to wonder what exactly he had uncovered.

Uncovered is a book that the journey of these women towards self-acceptance. It celebrates the female body and the women who faced their fears, confronted their culture, and discovered themselves.
