It claims to have been ‘proudly disappointing travellers for 40 years’ — or so goes the refreshingly straight-talking marketing spew of Hans Brinker, a budget hotel in Amsterdam. We can’t recall the last time we’ve wanted so badly to stay in a terrible room with ‘levels of comfort comparable to a minumum-security prison’ and ‘doors that lock’ (phew!) so much, but we really, really do now.
