Fine art photographer Charles Fréger, who is based in Rouen, France, recently trudged through 19 countries in Europe with his lens, capturing rituals such as the Festival of Bears or Fete de l’Ours in the Pyrenees, which had men dress up as the beasts stirring from hibernation.

It’s fascinating to see how people all over Europe dress in various tribal beast disguises, each befitting separate occasions.
