Jay-Z, the performance artist

Inspired by Marina Abramovic’s infamous 2010 retrospective at MoMa, Jay-Z performed a surprise intimate show at NYC’s Pace Gallery to a combination of fans and big names in the art world. He personally interacted with those in attendance, with one fan claiming he has ‘made himself art’.

Jay Z explains the reasoning behind it: “Concerts are basically performance art but the venue changes, and just by nature the performance changes. A smaller venue is more intimate, so you get to feel the energy of the people’.
