Everyone knows that viewing a famous painting on the computer doesn’t compare to the experience of seeing it in person. But thanks to the Google Art Project, you can see incredibly detailed close-ups of famous art works such as Vincent Van Gogh’s beautiful impressionistic paintings.

More than 40,000 works of art are available in high-resolution “gigapixel” format, which allows viewers to zoom in and admire the paintings’ brushstrokes. Take a look at the detail in these Van Gogh close-ups, and prepare to be amazed.
