Forget guard dogs, China’s taking to guard geese

We’ve known geese to be a feisty bunch yes, but who knew they’d make good partners in, er, fighting crime? In the Xinjiang province of China, the boys in blue are using geese to watch over the police stations at night.

According to Patrick Cumins, bird conservation director at Audubon Connecticut, who vouches for the sharpness of geese, geese can be a better bet than man’s best friend: ‘Dogs you can give some steak and they might be a little distracted.

It’s pretty hard to give geese something that’s going to distract them enough where they wouldn’t make noise. They might make more noise if you throw something yummy at them. And once they get going, they’re hard to quiet down.’ Well, who would have known?
