For all the unpredictable challenges get thrown in the way of astronauts as they zip off into outer space in the direction of Mars, the word is out that boredom is one of the biggest threats to a manned Mars mission.

It’s not surprising when the journey takes over eight months either way. More research is being done on the Hawaii Space Exploration Analog and Simulation project and the International Space Station to find out just how boredom works, as well as its doing — and undoing.
