Hot on the heels after the release of monster-vs-mecha flick Pacific Rim, ocean science blog Deep Sea News have uncovered the answer to one of life’s deepest mysteries: how many people does a Kaiju monster need to consume every day?

One of the movie lines (‘That Kaiju weighed 2500 tons’) tipped off its blogger Dr M, who in turn worked out the field energy expenditure and other biological considerations to arrive at a magical number.

So yes, just so you know, a kaiju needs to eat 17.9 humans daily, which also means that one kaiju would take about 1,102 years to eat all of Hong Kong’s current population. ‘Perhaps we shouldn’t be so worried about them’, he wrote.
