German cleaning equipment manufacturer, Karcher, volunteered its time and resources to clean Mt. Rushmore free of charge. The crew’s goal was to pressure wash lichens off of the presidents’ faces, but didn’t really expect to see a noticeable difference in appearance.
As it turns out, the granite carvings are just as bright and clean now as they were when they were created by Gutzon Borglum in 1941. Talk about a face lift.
