Beautiful photography of the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation

I had the pleasure of meeting photographer Richard Steinberger through his wife, Heather, while I was working with the Cheyenne River Youth Project in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, located on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation. While Richard’s commercial photography is beyond stunning, his talent for capturing light, color, and emotion shines through in these images he took of the reservation as part of a fine art photography book (to be released later this summer) that will be sold to raise money for the Youth Project.

My favorite aspect of his photography is his ability to focus in on a precise and transient moment, be it a drop of water falling from a barbed wire fence, or the dynamic lines of a young girl’s powwow costume leading the viewer towards her peaceful, yet joyful, facial expression. Not to diminish Richard’s talents, but the reservation really IS that beautiful, he’s captured it perfectly.
