Photographing the faces of Sydney’s social housing service

Unless you’re from Sydney, you’ve probably never heard of the small town of Airds. Lying on the ‘outskirts of the Australian dream’, Airds is known for its prominent social housing community; an often under-acknowledged and avoided area for those who have no purpose there. All this is set to change, though, with 70% of the State to be privately sold off over the next 10 to 15 years. Luckily, Sydney-based photographer Jagath Dheerasekara made it his mission to capture the estate as it is now; the people and the lifestyle. Check out some of our favourites below.
