Though the opening of Barbie’s life-sized Dreamhouse in Germany attracted many feminists to protest the sexist nature of the Barbie brand, no such opposition arose when the American version opened in Florida. Does the younger generation consider Barbie and her Dreamhouse to be as real as Thomas Jefferson and Mount Vernon? The sheer number of people who have flocked to Sawgrass Mills mall in Sunrise, Florida, to visit the pink mansion seems to point to that conclusion.
