I visited the Diffusion Photography Festival in Cardiff, UK, this week. A huge highlight was seeing Edgar Martin’s large-scale photographs of hydro-electricity plants in Portugal. Each image is created using a long exposure on a large format film camera (often 30 minutes or more) and Martin lights the scene himself by using a flashgun. The resulting photographs are eerie and absent, defying both scale and perspective.
