Ouch! Not that we needed any sort of scientific proof to be convinced, but as far back as 1908, a certain Dr Ludovis O’Followell published the book Le Corset, which included some spine-tingling X-ray images of volunteers wearing corsets to emulate the kind of stuff Victorian women put up with in the name of fashion. Yep, it’s a ridiculously tight squeeze with organs and ribs scrambling for space within.
