There’s a new type of ‘ruin porn’, and it doesn’t involve decaying urban centers. Usually, when a virtual world of MMO is abandoned, the servers shut down. Not so for Second Life, the open landscape, open format virtual world; as its population dwindles, things just keep going – sans people.

Its servers now exist as graveyards for the complex and beautiful landscapes, islands, structures and constructions of its former userbase. It’s a place full of unanswered ambition and intention, a place where the only destruction and decay has been deliberately designed and included through models and textures.
