Can everybody’s favorite maniac Patrick Bateman sing? Well, if the casting is right, sure. A musical adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ iconic novel does sound like a potential catastrophe — but still, it’s endorsed by the author himself, no less. It’s slated to arrive at the Almeida Theatre in London by year-end, and Duncan Sheik’s slated to compose the tunes while Rupert Goold will direct the musical. As the Kickstarter appeal (yes, the production will be crowdfunded) goes: ‘What better character to investigate than one of modern literature’s greatest and most enigmatic anti-heroes — who also happens to be an avowedly passionate music-lover?’
