We recorded our debut album in Mark’s parents’ garage at home in Ballarat. After initially recording the bulk of the album in expensive studios in LA and Sydney, with producers like Mickey Petralia (Ladytron, The Dandy Warhols) and Scott Horscroft (The Preserts, Silverchair, The Sleepy Jackson), we realised that what we were doing wasn’t us.

We scrapped everything we’d recorded and decided to just re-do it ourselves. We turned the garage into our own little world with fairy lights and lamps with our artwork hung up around the room. We used fire heaters to warm the shed in the middle of a cold Ballarat winter and spent three weeks experimenting and recording. The result is our very first full-length record, Black Sun.
