NeroTrigger: DIY high speed photography

Presented by hahn@1x

If the art of high speed photography has left you bamboozled and is keeping you up at night with questions like “but just how did they know that bullet was going to hit that egg?!”, we’re going to let you in on a little secret. One word: NeroTrigger.

I, too, was astonished to learn that there is in fact no wizard sorcery involved in high speed photography. All you need is a camera trigger, like the NeroTrigger, a handy little gadget that fits in the palm of your hand. Just connect it your DSLR camera (conveniently, it has a hot-shoe mount) and you’ll be able to capture any high speed moment, from popping balloons to lightning strikes to that joyous moment right as you slap your friend in the face.

The best bit is that the NeroTrigger boasts a number of fun features, allowing you to customise and trigger your camera in a variety of ways:

Lightning mode: As the name suggests, perfect for capturing lightning, fireworks and all things fiery. The camera will trigger with any sudden changes to the light levels in the scene. You can adjust the sensitivity from 1 to 99 to suit the environment you’re shooting in.

Sound mode: Break some glasses, pop some balloons, wreak some havoc – the NeroTrigger will capture it all as soon as it detects sound.

Laser mode: Trigger your camera with frickin’ laser beams – shine a laser pointer on the NeroTrigger and it will detect when the beam is broken. Perfect for night time photography and triggering your camera from a long distance.

DIY mode: this mode allows you to use anything as a trigger – attach your own devices and play by your own rules!

Other cool features include HDR and time lapse modes, and with a range of 6 colours there’s one to match every camera and suit every occasion.
