Indian engineers developing lingerie to deliver electric shocks to would-be rapists

Three young engineering students from the SRM University in Chennai, India, are now working on creating self-defence lingerie that can protect women against harassment and rape. Dubbed SHE or Society Harnessing Equipment, the innerwear is fitted out with an electric shock circuit board to deliver a proper jolt to the would-be rapist.

Development is still in the early stage, and the team acknowledges that the device needs to be ‘more compact’. Eventually they hope to add a smartphone interface by using Bluetooth and infrared technologies. A pressure sensor will also signal via Bluetooth to the smartphone to make emergency texts with location data during an attack.
