Photographer Chris Buck is regularly assigned to take celebrity portraits. But he doesn’t just do his job, he also invites these famous peops to play a game of hide-and-seek with the camera while he takes their portraits. That’s the premise for his photo project, Presence, where celebrities like David Lynch, Robert De Niro, Michael Stipe and Jack Nicklaus can’t be seen in the shot but they’re there all right: they’ve signed witness statements testifying that they were present for the shoot.

‘Devendra Banhart and Sarah Silverman both hid in strange and difficult places, and weirdly, I think that it makes their pictures better,’ he told Fast Co.Design. How cool.
