Banksy’s street art turned into print ads
French art director Christophe Pilate had the interesting idea of taking Banksy’s street art and reinterpreting it in a new and more commercial way. Pilate logically assigned brands to Banksy’s art, creating unique print ads for the corresponding brands. So, do you think Banksy himself would approve?

Do people in advertising have to bastardize everything!
This makes me furious.

I wouldn’t call Christophe Pilate’s idea interesting, I would call it a set piece response to being culture jammed. I can’t speak for Banksy but I see it as an industry returning fire against one of it’s more creative and well known critics. I doubt Banksy would expect anything less than for his art to be appropriated by the consumer-culture industry.

Actually, I find it really amusing. Obviously, the brands are not behind this. Corporate McD’s would never risk it. But, here is an appropriation of an appropriation. A resampling of a sampling. Some of these, the irony of Banksy’s work is heightened even more.
