Realistic figurative art by Fuyuki Maehara

The work of Fuyuki Maehara is amazingly deceptive, pushing realistic figurative art to obscene levels. The introverted Japanese artist has a tiny home near Tokyo, which he uses to carve pieces out of one block of wood with the television running for company. Recently interviewed by NHK, Maehara jokingly suggested only an ‘idiot’ would obsessively carve in this detail for months on end.
