Downtown Calling: Shan Nicholson’s cinematic ode to NYC

Downtown Calling is Shan Nicholson’s ode to his New York City and the art scene of a dark era in the city that blossomed into a subculture dedicated to creativity. I remember watching the film the first time and the effect it had on me because it’s ultimately about how art and music can push boundaries. As an artist, that’s something that’s so intensely inspiring. To boot, the film is narrated by one of my favorite misfits, Debbie Harry.
