Bangkok building looks flaky, but really isn’t

Remember the floating cinema? Office for Metropolitan Architecture’s Ole Scheeren, the architect behind it, has also designed a number of other intriguing architectural structures.

Our favourite of the lot has to be the 77-floor tall MahaNakhon complex, also a Thailand project. Sitting on a 3.6 acre site in the heart of Bangkok, the design includes a glass tower with terraces and balconies that pop into the structure, not out — making it look as if its walls are peeling away pixel by pixel to reveal its inner core. It is due for completion in 2014.
