One of the largest winter events in Japan, the world-renowned Sapporo Snow Festival runs for one week and attracts close to 2 million people every year. The festival features hundreds of snow and ice sculptures, transforming the parks and streets of Sapporo into a winter wonderland.
2013 will see the 64th festival take place between Feb 5-13, with a range of different teams from around the world participating. The subject of the snow statues varies and often features an event, famous building or person from the previous year. Statues are illuminated during the evening.
