In 1972, Ian Anderson wrote and recorded the Jethro Tull Progressive Rock classic album ‘Thick As A Brick’. The lyrics were credited at the time to the fictitious child character, Gerald Bostock, whose parents supposedly lied about his age. The record instantly became a number one Billboard Chart album and enjoyed considerable success in many countries of the world.
The 40th Anniversary Edition features a new 5.1 stereo mix, mixed by Steven Wilson, plus a DVD containing DTS & Dolby Digital 5.1 surround mix, high quality stereos 96/24 (new mix and 1972 flat transfer).

‘Jeffrey Goes to Leicester Square’ from ‘Stand Up’. Maybe I chose that just because of the way Ian Anderson pronounces ‘Leicester’ as ‘Leester’…

“Bouree” is my fav!
Why?
1/ It has musical notation that Ian Anderson created to accomodate his unique style.
2/ It is so fun!
3/ It is the only song by a rock group that I ever learned to play! As a teenager, I spent a short time learning to play the flute. So, of course I had to try to learn Bouree! And I did, no where as good as Ian but hey, it was fun!!
Thank you…
Sincerely,
Brad

Obviously “Living in the past”! When Tull visited Dublin it was as a god for us utterly useless, way too young, hippies. A man on stage, playin the flute and standing on one leg! Brilliant, especially considering most of us were legless at the same time! Ahh the good old days…..

So difficult to choose one so I have to say “Thick as a brick” for their audacity to produce music with an unusual breath of 40 minutes, at a time when bands hardly bet on pieces with more than 5 minutes.
“Locomotive breath” by the incredible force that Jethro Tull used to close their shows, and “Songs from the wood” by crossing the english folk that it’s always present in their musics but just assumed there properly.

I live in Athens, Tennessee. My favorite Jethro Tull song is ‘With You There To Help Me’ from the album Benefit. So many good albums from Tull it was a tough choice. Thanks for all the great music Ian & Co.!

It’s so hard to choose from Tull’s whole discography. When I was a kid, “Broadsword & The Beast” played magically in my imagination due to my love for fantasy (i.e., Piers Anthony’s Xanth Series, Dungeons and Dragons). I would listen to ‘Pussy Willow’ over and over again. There was just something about the driving of the verse that I loved. My brother, being 10 years older than I, was an absolute Tull fanatic. I loved looking at his record jackets and it’s because of him that I became so entranced with Tull and many other prog-ish bands of the time. These days I’m a huge Porcupine Tree/ Steven Wilson fan, so it all ties together with the remastering of “Thick As A Brick”. I can’t wait to discover this album all over again.

Life long Tull fan and raised that way since my early-70′s childhood. “Skating Away”. Once I hear it, which is not often enough, it rings in my head for days. The chorus is looping in my head, even now, as I type.

Wow, so many classic songs to choose from! After much deliberation, I’ve decided on Minstrel in the Gallery because it was one of the first Tull songs I heard, and it truly ROCKS!
Oh, and I live in York, UK.
