I first stumbled on Stephen Gill’s work through his gorgeous photographs of lipstick-stained cigarette butts. He concentrates on objects, places and people which go unnoticed and uses decay, the elements and sometimes collage to create images which are astonishingly beautiful, poignant, often funny and completely fresh. His new book, Coexistence, about a pond in an industrial waste site, comes out this week.
