Madeira may be more famous for its namesake cake and wine than its art, but the capital, Funchal, is trying to change that – one door at a time. The Art Project Open Doors (Projecto artE de pORtas abErtas) in the Old Town of Funchal has welcomed interventions by artists of all the visual disciplines: from painting, sculpture, photography, video, music and writing, to create their own piece on the old doors lining the street and breathe new life into the street.
