Door sculptures by Patricia Sumares

One of my favourite doors from the Funchal Door’s project was this one by artist and sculptor Patricia Sumares. The door was coated in ceramic faces, with different expressions and dimensions.

The door was designed back to front, as if you were on the inside looking out intended to make the passes by on the street feel like the street and the city was like their own home, and the smiley faces to evoke the family. I particularly liked the way the sun would alter the shadows of the piece creating an almost different piece of art throughout the day.

About the author

A love of traveling, art, and denim saw this Brit native mix them all up. The result was art crafted from denim and a new home in Sweden. Even though he once lived in Australia and never rode a wave, Denimu is only slightly better with a keyboard and likes to write about the things he has seen on his travels and the people he meets along the way.
