It's such a sad place. When I was there we did not go tubing. Some locals that we became quite close to asked us to write to the government and sign a petition against the tubing. At 12 midday about 8 bars begin blaring Nikki Minaj and Mr Guetta in competing volumes. It sounds like Glastonbury next door but the locals have to put up with it EVERY DAY. Imagine that. The music shakes your brain and the backpackers wandering the streets drunk and sunburnt and naked make me embarrassed to be a young tourist. Plus, look up the stats of how many people drown every month in this tiny stretch of river, SO MANY. Someone drowned when we were there and the next day the music started again and everyone just kept partying. It has destroyed a beautiful village and all the bars are foreign owned. Really, really sad.
