Thai filmmaker Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit recently exhibited a selection of his photographs at Goodman Arts Centre. Wittily dubbed Nawapol Can’t Go To Singapore, So He Sent His 20 Sad Photos to Show Instead, the works largely comprise of landscape compositions with distant individuals in them: ‘When I don’t see their faces I can imagine many things, like their feelings, what they are thinking, why they are here and what they are talking about’. The pictures are accompanied by pithy and wryly absurd screenplay lines that called for stifled chuckles in the gallery.
