It’s hard to explain to someone who’s never had a pet about the importance of a dog’s life and how they teach many of us how to express emotions in our own lives. To think we live in a world where humans raise dogs to fight and kill is pretty tragic. But fighting and killing are what mankind seems to know best about, so it’s natural, then, that we forget how important and short a dog’s life is compared to ours. I saw this particular segment of Jimmy Stewart reading a poem about his dog, Beau, for the first time as a re-run in the mid-80s when my parents would let me stay up late and watch TV. It hit me hard then, something I never forgot and always looked forward to seeing again and again.
