Coffee and doughnuts is a classic combination. But beer and doughnuts may take some adjusting to, until you realize that it is probably what you’ve always been dreaming of. And so Rogue Ales of Oregon teamed up with our favourite off-the-wall doughnut vendors in what can only be described as ‘a collision of crazies’ to create a beer that encapsulates North America: Voodoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Ale.
Made with seven different types of malt, this brown ale will have a good bready backbone to call to mind that fried dough we love so much, along with pure maple extract and applewood smoked bacon to make it the sweet, smoky brew it claims to be. No doubt this will have the purists turning up their noses – and beer enthusiasts are coming in skeptical. But we can’t resist when two great food pioneers come together to create sometimes magical, often unusual, pairings.
