Syrian artist Buthayna Ali creates spaces that both mock and expose the numerous contradictions she is faced with as a woman, an artist, and a Muslim. Within the very context that constrains her, she fights back with kick-ass spacial journeys. My personal favorite project of hers is Y-Why!, a landscape of giant slingshots poised and ready to fire. Through scale and repetition, she demonstrates a sick desensitization to war.
