I came across the awesome pencil skills of Dilly a few years ago while photographing him for my skater project. We recently commissioned him to work his magic in a portrait of my partner Andy, and he didn’t disappoint. The final image is hyper-real and unsettling in its likeness to the subject.
Dilly’s project, The Mind’s Apocalypse, takes his distinctive approach a step further, finding beauty in the details of the portrait yet being repulsed by the gore of it. The self-mutilation by the subjects in these images, executed with such precision and beauty, means that I will never tire of looking at them.
