Win a prize pack from the coolest little capital in the world
I’m originally from Wellington, New Zealand, so I know first hand what a happening little city it is, from the windswept hills that harbour (did I say harbour? Check Wellington’s out below) cool boutiques, cafes and restaurants, to the bustling downtown area. Thanks to our friends at Tourism Wellington, we are giving away a bunch of New Zealand-themed goodies to the best answers to this question: What are the first words you think of when you think of Wellington?
Prizes include:
* Two bottles of 42 Below Vodka
* Two bottles of Marlborough wine
* Six blocks of Whittaker’s chocolate
Needless to say, entrants must be over the age of 18 and this one is for our Australian-based readers only. Entries close on March 26th.
TO ENTER: Leave a comment below this post with the first word/s that come to mind when you think of Wellington as well as the name of the Australian city you live in.
To get you started, here are a few events that we recommend in Wellington, New Zealand, this year:
* International Arts Festival (Feb 24 — March 18)
* Unveiled at Te Papa (now until Apr 22)
* Wellington Fashion week (18 Apr — Thu 26 Apr)
* NZ international Comedy Festival (April 27 – 20 May)
* Visa Wellington on a Plate (August 10-26)
* WOW (Sep 27 — Oct 7)
* Toast Martinborough (November 18)

Spent weeks watching the InterIslander bumping towards the harbour from Miramar Peninsula. Love how you are minutes from town but feeling miles from anywhere.

Wellington is my spiritual home – I loved to visit there as a child and was in awe of all the different “groovy” people. It is still a must visit place on my visits to NZ – the best coffee, food and culture NZ has to offer.

Wellington holds my heart. I’m originally from Dunedin but now live in Sydney and spent a few years in Wellington in between. I fell in love. With everything. The people, the food, the beauty of the city. Everytime I hear the name Wellington I feel homesick.

Beautiful city. scary flying in though.
Went there for a trip my first words where ” damn it’s windy”
After I had got a jumper on and read a guild on the city was ” damn where should we go first, so much cool stuff to do”
But as I was taking the ferry to south island it was “damn I really want a cliffside mansion so I can just ride an elevator for my garage” it would be the best view this was after I asked why there were elevators on the cliff.

Wellington is all about the “W’s”…it’s otherwise known as “Wollywood” (Lord of the Rings), it’s wonderful, a great place to wander, and New Zealand in general it just other worldly…there is just no where else like it. Wellington can also be “windy” at times.

fresh free unfussy
I was there for one day and I saw:
- our city transit bus driver run into a bakery when we were stopped at a light and come out with a bun, saying kind of sheepishly, “sorry I was really hungry” which I thought was CLASSIC and
- lots of boys jumping into the water near Te Papa and climbing out and jumping in… in Sydney you would probably die or be arrested if you did that near the opera house!
