John Jacob Niles was a creepy, almost vampiric dude who played traditional folk songs using just a homemade dulcimer and his haunting, genderless voice. He was the first to record many of the songs he sang, and he had a huge influence on the likes of Bob Dylan and other folk revivalists of the ’60s.
