New drawings by Derek Lerner
These are a few pieces from an ongoing group of abstract drawings created from an aerial vantage point that vacillates between macro and micro in terms of scale and distance. Inspiration and references come from satellite photography, microscopic imagery, radial irrigation systems used in large scale commercialized agriculture, as well as symbols and marks found throughout major cities.
The mark-making and visual language within these new works is a culmination of fifteen years of previous work that runs from endless doodling to more thought out and fully executed works. Contradictory feelings about the complex systems and order/chaos of major metropolitan cities, as well as thoughts about humanity as a virus motivate the making of this new work.

Surfing at Rhossili Beach in Wales
Most don’t think of Wales as a surfing destination. In fact, most people don’t think of Wales at all. But the dramatic cliffs and breathtaking scenery that surround Rhossili Beach create a ‘surf sweet spot’, making this travel destination alluring to both surfers and nature-lovers alike. Read more
Traktor: new single from Swedish folk-pop group Francis
This Swedish folk-pop group has released an EP, This Must Be Blood, featuring Traktor [above], among other gems. They’ve been on the circuit since 2006, with their live performance being described on Last.fm as ‘an unleashed Tasmanian Devil singing heartbreaking gospelsongs’. Fun.

Skagen are a Danish-born design company based out of Nevada with an innovative and clean approach to their work. Their trademark product is this titanium mesh watch, which I’ve worn with pride for years. But they also produce different models of sunglasses and jewellery. When so many products these days offer extra gimmicks and weigh you down by their size, Skagen strip it all back and, in doing so, hoist themselves far above the pack.
