South African painter/printer/comic artist Conrad Botes has been an obsession of mine for quite some time now. His imagery deals with the interrelated themes of religion, violence, and good vs. evil in a graphic style that demands your attention. As one half of the team (the other being Anton Kannemeyer) behind Bitterkomix (published 1992-2009), he also tackled the difficult issue of race relations in South Africa with his shockingly blunt series of comics.
