Live at the Soul Dayer: live sound system mix from 1980s

Sound system culture in the UK is what Hip Hop Block Parties were to the US. In the eighties, these sounds took on American and Jamaican influences and gave them an English twist with explosive results. Although too young to go to the soundclashes at the time, Live at the Soul Dayer was a live album which was a MASSIVE influence on me while growing up. It’s an amazing piece of history pressed onto vinyl: a live recording of England’s finest soul and Hip Hop sound systems, including Main Attraction, TNT and Beatfreak.

PONY’s FW12 Sneaker Collection launch in Berlin

Ricky Powell is commonly known as the Fourth Beastie Boy and Def Jam’s unofficial chronicler. A New York native photographer, it seems logical that he has teamed up with PONY for a limited edition range of dunks that dropped in Berlin last week. I’m no die hard sneaker freak, but these are extremely fresh.

Ragga Twins: 18” Speaker

Whenever I’m feeling lost, or in the studio hitting a brick wall, I put this tune on and it pushes me forward. It’s about twenty years old but still sounds so fresh. Shut up and Dance was an amazing record label, indeed.

Fashion blogger Tavi is biting, witty, articulate, and stylish for any age. The fact that she’s only twelve makes her kind of over-the-top amazing. Already an accomplished photographer and astute critic of all things wearable, the sarcastic pre-teen is probably sick of being described as precocious, but she’s the very definition of the word.
