Lords of the Underground feat. Marley Marl and De’1

I am such a child of the ’90s. I’ve been reminiscing particularly hard over ’90s hip-hop lately, and I stumbled upon this track by Lords of the Underground featuring Marley Marl and De’1. I love how stuff from back then managed to be gritty and raw yet fun at the same time.

Dickless: Saddle Tramp

I was totally into riot grrrl bands when I was in high school, probably because I had a hard time relating to overly masculine artists. Though they were short-lived and only released a handful of songs, Dickless remains one of my favorite bands of the ’90s. I used to have one of their t-shirts, and jock dads used to point and laugh at me. I got a kick out of that.

I almost forgot — metal is really about being drunk, pissed, offensive, and satanic. I have Bestial Mockery to thank for this. Their no-frills black thrash is barebones and snarling without being too dead-pan serious. These guys from Sweden are clearly having a blast worshiping the Dark One in the tradition of old-school bands like Venom, early Bathory, and Sodom. Nothing too original here, but it’s fun as hell.
