Sikhtoons: cartoons by Vishavjit Singh
I am the only turban and bearded editorial cartoonist in America. I started cartooning post 9/11, inspired by other editorial cartoonists’ work. I feel art sprinkled with humor is the best way to pierce the invisible walls of fear and anxiety. The digital book accessible from this link was created to introduce denizens of this planet to the some of the mysterious turbaned characters cohabitating their space.

New York is the most exciting place in the world. Anything at any time can startle or amaze you. I took this photo walking on the street in Soho. The illustration was inside a storefront and is the work of a late 19th Century English illustrator, Arthur Rackham. Only when I got home did I realize the beauty of this piece.

A 19 year old Thai born, American-bred and classically trained with the stage name Violinder caught my attention at a live performance. He jams his strings to Hip Hop tunes and Punjabi songs. You don’t need to understand the lyrics of his work to appreciate his skill. He is destined to be performing with big dogs in the not too distant future.

Her incredible talent for accentuating her subject’s true personality, whether they be celebrities or animals, is uncanny. We asked some of New York’s more creative residents where they like to hang out in the city, and got a mixed bag of responses back. We’ll be running their insider tips over the next few weeks. This is illustrator Marcos Chin on his favorite arcade bar, aptly named … wait for it … Barcade: ‘Barcade is a time-warp into the 1980s when going to the arcade was the major past time for many of my friends and I. Lined throughout the space are a series of classic 25 cent video arcade games, like Q-bert, Donkey Kong, Arkanoid and Tetris. There’s also a pool table near the back of the space, and a terrific selection of beers to choose from. And yes, you can drink-and-play. Originally hailing from Kendal, Cumbria and now based in Leeds, the Wild Beasts foursome are the next hopefuls for Domino Records, who sent the group out to Sweden to record their first album, Limbo, Panto, released on June the 16th. The new single — The Devil’s Crayon — shimmers in wide-screen around a sense of location, melody and wonder at the scale of things. Indeed, it sounds like the theme song to a new kind of very English road movie.

Italian brand Brionvega has resurrected the classy Radiofonografio piece first created in 1965. The updated version is just like the original turntable/radio unit, but also has a CD/DVD player.
