Slings made from upcycled inner tubes of truck and bike tires

There’s a lot of green gear out there waiting for eco warriors to take them in, but a lot of it can get pretty apeish. Besides my trusty Freitag and a tarpaulin tote I carry for a laugh, I have one of these badass English Retreads shoulder slings. These are made from upcycled inner tubes of truck and bike tires, come with gorgeous metal rivets, and are tough as hell. Rather than kill an ungulate to make a bag, it’s like they’ve killed (okay, scavenged) a monster truck instead. Which feels great. Read more

What the world would be like without …

What would the world be like without Mark Zuckerberg? Ogilvy Brazil’s campaign for Forbes includes a series of invisible-man infographics that, erm, figure out the figures on what we all would be missing if people like Richard Branson, Bill Gates and Tiger Woods didn’t exist. Funny how the one of Donald Trump goes ‘Less 20 Skyscrapers’ and ‘Less 185 people Fired in Reality Shows,’ but unforgivably leaves out something quite important like ‘Less 1 Comb-over’. Read more

Reminders photo series by Austin’s Erin Hanson

Austin-based Erin Hanson believes everyone is prey to bouts of laziness. Presumably this is why he has set up so many magical photography and graphic design projects on his site, Recovering Lazyholic. I love the deliberate flippancy he brings to his Reminders series (self-described as ‘childish treatment for childish behaviour’), where he sticks colourful reminders around the house to alter his lazy tendencies. Giant office supplies add to an office space atmosphere, creating a playground rather then a space for corporate duldrums to wander aimlessly. This was originally created to separate the four sections of a London office so buyers could see each one differently. But I rather see it as a chance to feel as if we shrank. Fun! Read more

San Francisco-based illustrator Luke Feldman has just had his first children’s book published, Chaff n’ Skaffs: Mai and the Lost Moskivvy, a collaboration with writer Amanda Chin. The book artfully tells the story of Mai, ‘a young girl who never ventured too far from her home. When a lost mosquito interrupts Mai’s sleep, her friend Chaff suggests they escort Moskivvy back home to a faraway land. So begins a courageous girl’s voyage into a fantastic world’, all communicated beautifully through Feldman’s colorful, dynamic and considered illustrations. Read more

When I first saw the freakishly long, beaded Ghostdancer earrings on a friend of mine, I was shocked to actually be looking at something undoubtedly inspired by Native American art that didn’t actually insult someone’s culture. Read more

In the animal series, artist/designer Okayboss explores the trend of bands naming themselves after animals. These pieces, inspired by such artists as the Mountain Goats and The Dodos, put a colorful spin on the wildlife-turned-band phenomenon in indie-rock. Limited edition signed pieces are available in the Lost At E Minor store. Read more
